Here is a new event series all about KIDS GIVING IT A GO!
Three races designed just for riders aged 7–12 (14 for ladies) on grade 3 or similar trails (all features either rollable or have ride arounds). The race difficulty gets harder as the season goes on. This is the perfect introduction for up and coming kids to experience timed race runs in a safe and inclusive environment.
This race series is about having fun and being introduced to racing. There are Girls and Boys podiums for all age categories, spot prizes to be won and a professionally managed event. Fun times on bikes.

RACE RULES & PLAN

RULES:

The minimum age is 7 years old.

Age is as of 31st December of the year of the series.

A delegated Guardian (16+) or Parent must be present in the forest, accessible and contactable for the duration of the event.

Kids must not race on e-bikes.
-
Parents are NOT permitted to ride the race track with their kids during the event.

Participants and their Guardians / Caregivers / Parents agree to the Terms and Conditions, Rules and Code of Conduct.

RACE DAY:

We'll provide carpark shuttles in the morning to the Event Hub and out again after the Race Runs. These are for parents and riders however we recommend riding in and out if you would like flexibility.

Format is two practice runs in the morning and two timed race runs in the afternoon.
-
Entry includes all four shuttle uplifts for KIDS ONLY.

Prize giving will be as soon as the results are available.

The event will operate in the rain and will only be cancelled if the conditions are unsafe (such as high winds).​

Terms and Conditions, Code of Conduct, Safety Guidelines and Race Rules

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
-
These Terms and Conditions apply to your entry into the Lil’ Legends DH Series. By entering the series or any individual race, and by paying the applicable entry fee, you and the participant’s parent, caregiver or guardian are deemed to have accepted these Terms.
-
The Lil’ Legends DH Series is designed for young riders giving downhill racing a go in a safe, supportive and inclusive environment. The event is based on grade 3 or similar mountain bike trails, with features that are rollable or have ride-around options. The difficulty may increase as the series progresses.

Age requirements are set out in the Race Rules. The minimum age is 7 years old. Age is taken as at 31 December in the year of the series.
-
A parent, caregiver or delegated guardian aged 16 years or older must be present in the forest, accessible and contactable for the full duration of the event. This is a condition of entry.
-
Transfers: Transfers may be accepted at the discretion of the organiser. Any transfer to another person, race or category must be approved by the organiser and the new rider must meet all eligibility requirements, including age and category requirements. Transfers are not guaranteed and may not be available close to race day.

Withdrawals and refunds: If a participant cannot attend or chooses to withdraw, refund requests must be made by email to info@hetohu.com.
-
Refunds requested up until 30 days before the relevant race may receive a refund of 50% of the entry fee, excluding any booking, transaction or service fees.
-
No entry fee refunds will be provided within 30 days of the relevant race.
-
For full series entries, any refund will be calculated proportionally based on the number of races being withdrawn from.
-
Cancellation, postponement or course changes: The event is planned to operate in the rain. The organiser may cancel, postpone, delay, shorten, amend or change the event format, course, track, race hub, timetable or rules where required for safety, weather, trail conditions, access restrictions, operational reasons, or circumstances beyond the organiser’s reasonable control.
-
If the event is cancelled due to circumstances beyond the organiser’s reasonable control, including but not limited to fire, flood, storm, high winds, earthquake, natural disaster, unsafe trail conditions, forest closure, emergency, public authority direction, government restriction, or any other similar event, entry fees are non-refundable. Where practical, the organiser may offer an alternative option, but this is not guaranteed.

The organiser will not be liable for any inability or delay in delivering the event where that inability or delay is caused by circumstances beyond the organiser’s reasonable control.
-
The parties agree that cancellation, postponement or alteration of the event for any reason will not constitute impossibility of performance or frustration of these Terms. In those circumstances, the cancellation, postponement and alteration provisions of these Terms will apply.
-
Mountain biking and downhill racing involve risk. These risks include, but are not limited to, crashes, falls, collisions with riders, spectators, officials, vehicles, trees or other obstacles, changing trail surfaces, weather conditions, mechanical failure, and injury or death.
-
Parents, caregivers and guardians acknowledge these risks and accept responsibility for deciding whether the participant has the appropriate riding ability, confidence, fitness, bike and equipment to take part.

The organiser, event delivery partners, sponsors, officers, directors, staff, contractors, volunteers and any party associated with the event will not be liable to you, the participant, or any other person associated with you for any direct or indirect loss, injury or death arising from intended or actual participation in the event, except where liability cannot legally be excluded.
-
Nothing in these Terms is intended to limit or exclude any rights you may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, Fair Trading Act 1986 or any other applicable law.
-
By entering, the participant and their parent, caregiver or guardian agree to comply with all event rules, safety information, instructions, briefings, code of conduct, marshal directions and organiser decisions.
-
The organiser has absolute discretion to accept or decline any entry. The organiser may also revoke an entry, remove a participant from the event, or disqualify a participant where the organiser considers it necessary for safety, fairness, conduct, eligibility or operational reasons.
-
The participant must attend the compulsory event briefing before riding the course as part of the event.
-
The participant’s bike and equipment must be safe, well maintained and suitable for downhill mountain biking. The organiser may refuse to allow a rider to start or continue if their bike, helmet or safety equipment is considered unsafe or unsuitable.
-
Approved helmets must be worn at all times while riding. Additional protective equipment is strongly recommended, including gloves, knee pads, elbow pads, eye protection, suitable shoes and body protection.
-
E-bikes are not permitted. Only standard pedal-powered mountain bikes may be used.
-
Parents, caregivers and guardians are not permitted to ride the race track with participants during the event unless expressly approved by the organiser for operational or safety reasons.
-
The participant and their parent, caregiver or guardian consent to the organiser using the participant’s name, image, voice, video or likeness for event promotion, media, social media, advertising, reporting and related purposes. If a parent, caregiver or guardian does not want the participant to be photographed or filmed, they must advise the organiser in writing before the event. The organiser will take reasonable steps to accommodate this, but cannot guarantee that a participant will not appear in general event or crowd imagery.

The organiser will collect and use personal information to manage entries, deliver the event, communicate with participants and guardians, manage safety, report results, meet legal obligations and carry out necessary business functions. Personal information will be handled in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020.

CODE OF CONDUCT

Lil’ Legends is about giving it a go, building confidence, learning race skills and having fun on bikes.
-
All riders, parents, caregivers, guardians, supporters and spectators agree to:
-
Use good common sense.
-
Stay safe.
-
Ride hard, but ride fair.
-
Treat others with respect.
-
Encourage kids and keep the event positive.
-
Follow the directions of event staff, marshals, medics and officials.
-
Respect the forest, trails, other forest users and the event venue.
-
Support less experienced riders.
-
Avoid negative, abusive, threatening or disrespectful behaviour.
-
Avoid public criticism of riders, officials, volunteers, parents or the organiser.
-
Not place themselves or others in unnecessary danger.
-
Not bring the event, the sport, the organiser, sponsors or partner organisations into disrepute.
-
Parents, caregivers and guardians are expected to model good behaviour. This is a kids’ event. Keep it supportive, fair and fun.

SAFETY GUIDELINES
All Riders
-
Riders take part at their own risk, with the consent of their parent, caregiver or guardian.
-
Riders must be capable of riding grade 3 or similar mountain bike trails and should be comfortable riding features that are rollable or have ride-around options.
-
Riders must ride within their ability. This series is about progression, not pressure.
-
Riders must attend the event briefing before riding the course as part of the event.
-
Riders must wear an approved helmet at all times while riding.
-
Riders should wear suitable protective equipment, including gloves, knee pads, elbow pads, eye protection and appropriate riding shoes.
-
Bikes must be safe, mechanically sound and suitable for the event.
-
Riders must follow all event signage, course markings, marshal instructions and event briefings.
-
Riders must not ride the race track outside of the allocated practice and race times unless the organiser has confirmed the track is open for event riding.
-
Riders must stop and help an injured rider if they are first on scene. If the injury appears serious, warn other riders and send someone to notify a marshal, medic or event official.
-
Riders who feel unwell, unsafe, injured or unable to continue must stop and ask for help.
-
Riders who withdraw must tell an event official as soon as possible.
-
Riders must be careful when passing or being passed. Overtaking should only happen when it is safe.
-
Slower riders should allow faster riders to pass when safe. Faster riders must be patient, polite and clear.

Parents, Caregivers and Guardians
-
A parent, caregiver or delegated guardian aged 16 years or older must be present in the forest, accessible and contactable for the full duration of the event.
-
The parent, caregiver or guardian is responsible for deciding whether their child is capable of taking part.
-
Parents, caregivers and guardians are responsible for making sure the rider has suitable food, water, clothing, bike, helmet and protective gear.
-
Parents, caregivers and guardians must not ride the race track with their child during the event unless expressly approved by the organiser.
-
Parents, caregivers and guardians must follow marshal and official instructions.
-
Parents, caregivers and guardians must not interfere with timing, course markings, race operations or other riders.
-
Any concerns should be raised respectfully with event staff.

RACE RULES
Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse.

Riders must enter the correct age category.
-
Girls and boys podiums will be awarded for all eligible age categories.
-
E-bikes are not permitted.
-
Parents are not permitted to ride the race track with their kids during the event.
-
A delegated guardian aged 16 years or older, or a parent or caregiver, must be present in the forest, accessible and contactable for the full duration of the event.
-
Riders must attend the compulsory event briefing.
-
Riders must complete practice before racing unless otherwise approved by the Event Director.
-
The standard race format is two practice runs and two timed race runs, unless changed by the organiser.
-
Entry includes up to four shuttle uplifts for riders only, unless the organiser confirms otherwise.
-
Carpark shuttles are provided for riders and parents/caregivers/guardians at the times advised. Riders and supporters who want flexibility are encouraged to ride or walk in and out where appropriate.
-
Race plates must be fixed to the front of the bike and clearly visible at all times during practice and racing.
-
Timing devices or timing systems must not be tampered with.
-
Riders must ride the marked course. Short-cutting is not allowed.
-
If a rider leaves the marked course, they must re-enter at the same point where they exited, unless directed otherwise by an official.
-
Broken tape, missing signs or unclear markings are not an excuse for short-cutting.
-
Riders must obey all marshals, medics and event officials.
-
Riders must not deliberately block another rider.
-
Faster riders must give a clear and polite call when passing, such as “rider coming” or “on your right”.
-
Slower riders must allow faster riders to pass when it is safe to do so.
-
Abusive language, intimidation, unsafe riding, poor sportsmanship or disrespect toward riders, officials, volunteers, parents, guardians, spectators or other forest users may result in a penalty, removal from the event or disqualification.
-
Riders must stop for injured riders where assistance is needed. The organiser may make a timing adjustment where a rider loses time helping another rider.
-
If officials, marshals or medics are attending an incident on course, riders must slow down, follow instructions and dismount if directed.
-
Riders must not receive outside assistance on the course except from another rider, event official, marshal, medic, or as otherwise allowed by the organiser.
-
No towing riders is permitted, including by e-bike, another rider, parent, caregiver or guardian.
-
Riders must not use alcohol, illegal substances or banned performance-enhancing substances during the event.
-
Riders deemed by the organiser to be unable to safely continue may be withdrawn from the event.
-
Protests must be submitted to the Event Director in writing within one hour of results being posted or within one hour of the relevant rider finishing, whichever applies. Protests must be respectful, specific and verifiable.
-
Penalties may include a warning, time penalty, removal from results, disqualification or refusal of future entry, depending on the seriousness of the issue.
-
The Event Director reserves the right to amend the course, schedule, rules, categories, shuttle arrangements or event format where required.
-
The Event Director reserves the right to disqualify any rider.
-
The Event Director’s decision is final.
